A week-long hearing is underway in an attempt to disqualify President Donald Trump from running for President of the United States in 2024. Arguments began on Monday morning in Denver, Colorado, as part of a lawsuit filed by Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW).
CREW’s lawsuit is based on the “insurrection” clause of the United States Constitution imposed after the Civil War. Section 3 of the Fourteenth Amendment of the Constitution states that “No person shall...hold any office...to support the Constitution of the United States, shall have engaged in insurrection or rebellion against the same.” The claim is that President Trump “engaged in insurrection” against the United States through his words and actions on January 6th, 2021.
This baseless lawsuit might seem like a long-shot attempt to ban President Trump from the 2024 ballot, but the judge hearing the case is known leftist Sarah B. Wallace. Wallace was appointed by Democrat Governor Jared Polis, a homosexual entrepreneur who was part of the “Gang of Four,” funding the shift of Colorado’s political landscape to the left in the 2000s and 2010s. In his tenure in the House of Representatives, before he was governor, Polis was the co-chair of the LGBT Equality Caucus and a member of the Congressional Progressive Caucus established in 1991 by Maxine Waters, Bernie Sanders, and other far-left Representatives.
In 2022, Judge Wallace contributed to the Colorado Turnout Project, founded as a resistance to Republicans who “refused to condemn the political extremists who stormed the United States Capitol on January 6, 2021.”
Attorneys made their opening arguments on Monday morning for and against President Trump. CREW’s legal counsel argued that Trump was an active participant in an “insurrection” on January 6th, while Trump’s legal defense argued that the President’s words and actions that day in no way incited violence or anything resembling an insurrection.
Regardless of the outcome of this lawsuit and similar lawsuits in other states, it will likely be appealed and eventually put before the Supreme Court of the United States. Despite a mixed record on MAGA issues, including election fraud, the nominal conservative majority on SCOTUS will likely rule in favor of President Trump.
About CREW
CREW was founded by attorneys Melanie Sloan and Norm Eisen in 2003. Eisen is a former assistant director of the Los Angeles office of the Anti-Defamation League, served as U.S. Ambassador to the Czech Republic during the Obama administration, and co-authored a 2022 book entitled Overcoming Trumpery: How to Restore Ethics, the Rule of Law, and Democracy published by the Bookings Institution. Eisen was also co-counsel for the House Judiciary Committee during President Trump’s first impeachment in 2020. Washington Post columnist Jennifer Rubin called Eisen a “critical force in building the case for impeachment.”
CREW receives funding from the Gill Foundation, known for LGBT advocacy; the Acra Foundation, which worked to lift sanctions against Cuba; the Service Employees International Union, a prominent supporter of the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare); and the infamous Democracy Alliance, funded and co-founded by George Soros.
These are just a few of the forces behind the ongoing plot to disqualify President Trump from the White House. We’ll continue covering this hearing and similar lawsuits as they unfold.
